Henri Matisse: The Cut Outs

Regarded as one of the most admired and influential artists of our time, it was a confinement to bed, following surgery, that led Henri Matisse to find the second lease of life that resulted in his now instantly recognisable cut outs.

From snow flowers to dancers, circus scenes to snails, the exhibition displays a huge array of Matisse’s ‘carving into colour’ series, showcasing the works that cemented the artist as a god of the modern art world. The sheer scale of the pieces is impressive in itself, add to that the incredibly uplifting colour palette and you have a recipe for an amazing source of creative inspiration.

The exhibition is on currently at the Tate modern and will run until the beginning of September.
