Currently on display in London’s Gallery FUMI, Lukas Wegworth’s Crystallisation Collection provides proof of the old adage that ones person’s rubbish is another person’s treasure.

Having crafted a series of seven unique vases, Berlin-based Wegworth smashed each one before painstakingly piecing them back together. It is the artists shun of the more traditional superglue, in favour of sparkling coloured crystals, that gives the reconstructed vases a whole new context.

Repairing the objects to a state far more beautiful than that of their original one, the inspired collection provides an intriguing examination into how craftsmanship can combine with science, displaying a natural rarity in a man-made and controlled state.
