Rest Nest

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

We are delighted to announce our Rest Nest initiative in partnership with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust as part of their staff support Covid-19 legacy programme. Working with the Trust, Taylor Howes will be rolling out more Rest Nest rooms next year.

Rest Nest is a charity initiative by Taylor Howes Designs, founded by Karen Howes. Through the initiative, we work with hospitals throughout the UK to transform the staff break room facilities on their wards. We work with hospital charitable trusts, as well as through a system of our partners and donors to deliver the rooms. Each Rest Nest room is tailored to each hospital and their requirements. Run as with a client project, the process involves client briefings, a studio visit, design presentation and complete procurement and installation.

Last year we completed a Rest Nest for Charing Cross Hospital’s A&E team and now we are now partnering with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust to roll out more Rest Nests across their hospitals, including St Mary’s Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital. The Rest Nest Journey

Imperial College Healthcare and Taylor Howes are now building on our partnership, with further support from Imperial Health Charity, as part of the Trust’s staff support Covid-19 legacy programme. Taylor Howes has partnered with the Trust to roll out 20 Rest Nest rooms in 2022.  The programme recognises the benefits of a more holistic and strategic approach to staff health and wellbeing and is broken down into three strands – improvements to staff spaces, transforming on-site food and shops offer and expanding their mental health support service. The Rest Nest initiative plays an important part in strand one – improving staff spaces.

Programme director Michelle Dixon, said: “We think NHS staff have got too used to break rooms with tatty furniture and poor facilities. Our Covid-19 legacy programme and the Rest Nests are about going beyond basic maintenance and repairs to think differently about how we use our – still limited – budgets to provide beautiful spaces to help our staff relax and re-energise. We’ve been delighted by how many others want to help us do this!
